About Bill Mize

I’m Bill, and I love movies and television.

Born in 1960, I grew up bathed in the glow of the cathode ray tube.
A minimum of channels and a maelstrom of reruns, it entertained me, comforted me, and forever influenced me, and how I viewed the world.
I learned about Vietnam and Watergate.
I watched the Olympics and The Three Stooges.

After my mother’s death when I was six, I used the medium to escape my pain.
I didn’t want to do chores or go to school; I wanted to fight aliens, explore strange new worlds, discover hidden creatures that threatened us.

My world was filled with rocket ships, flying saucers, radioactive monsters, blood sucking vampires, creatures from black lagoons, beautiful women, brave scientists, and I loved every minute of it.

But I was still alone.

I’m Bill, and I am a Monster Kid.

Every Saturday afternoon, I would plunk down in front of the TV and wait for the creepy music that would introduce Dr. Paul Bearer, the local horror show host of Creature Features, on WTOG Channel 44. He would crack wise and pun his way through movie after movie, and I loved every minute of it.

In the early 90’s, I discovered the Internet, AOL, and a place called the Universal Monsters Message Board.
Hundreds of people, just like me, from all over the world, discussing and dissecting the old movies and sharing our love and memories.

Rather than just consuming them via the television or movie screen, I grew to learn about the directors, the actors, the special effects artists – I learned about the people behind the camera lens as well as in front of it. Learning about the movie makers and discovering the stories behind the movies, it made me love them even more.

Even though they were made on a shoestring budget.
Even though they didn’t have the greatest cast or crew.
Even though they didn’t make a dime of profit.

You still loved them.

They were like awkward children, and you just wanted to hug them and tell them that you loved them.

I’m Bill, and I’m here to share some of that love with you.

I’m doing this podcast because I need some cheering up and thought you might as well.

These are rough times, and it’s nice to be able to travel back to a simpler time, when all you had to worry about was the mad scientist next door who may, or may not, be creating a race of Atomic Supermen to take over the world, or that the next nuclear test would cause all flora and fauna to grow to the size of sequoias or Volkswagen buses.

I hope that you’ll take the time to subscribe to my podcast, share your thoughts with me, and we can travel down that bad movie memory lane together.

Thanks for being here, and thanks for being part of my life.
